Blog Post 8: Week 8
Assistive and adaptive technologies are essential in every modern classroom setting. These tools are used to assist students with physical disabilities. Oftentimes, we forget that there is a population of students out there that require such assistance, so it is important to have technological aides available for use. I have never used such technologies and I don't recall ever seeing any type of technology like this used in the classroom. I don't perceive any challenges in using these types of assistive and adaptive technologies in the classroom, except for cost. Schools that are not well funded may not be able to afford the type of technology needed to support their physically disabled students.
I envision myself using technology in my professional life often. As a future educator, my responsibilities could include posting and updating grades online, communicating with parents via email or other technological tools, creating presentations for lectures and more. To use technology efficiently and effectively in these instances I must get acquainted with technology I will be using. It is most important that I should feel comfortable using technological tools.
I really enjoyed the WebQuest assignment we were given last week. I did not know how to make or customize a website before this assignment. It was a learning process for me as I figured everything out as I was working on it, and I am very satisfied with my finished product. I enjoyed being creative with this assignment and getting to pick the grade level and a topic I would be teaching on. Something I can improve upon next time is the way in which I formatted the site itself. If I were to do this again, I would create a website from scratch instead of with a template so I would have more control over how I was formatting it. I would love to use a WebQuest in my future career as I think it is a fun and interesting way to present a lecture!

I have also never used nor seen any of my peers use assistive or adaptive technologies before but I look forward to learning more about them so I can properly use them in my future classroom to help any of my students in need. Your WebQuest looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI like your stance on using the adaptive and assistive technologies! I think they are definitely essential for certain students in the classroom. I also agree that the costs can be a major factor for certain schools. Counties should make sure they set aside funds for things like this so every student has the chance to learn effectively. I love the look of your webquest, it looks like you spent a lot of time designing it!
ReplyDeletehey! I have never had any classmates ever need the assistive or adaptive technologies before, but I am studying to be a special ed teacher so I am sure I will be having to use some in my future career! For that reason, it was really cool to learn more about them!! Also! I love your WebQuest!! It looks to aesthetically pleasing!! Good job!
ReplyDeleteHey girl, technology in the classroom is so important! I had a peer in elementary school use a joystick instead of a mouse, which was interesting to learn about, and at that age, everyone was jealous of him using a joystick! I like your website as well, I love the outerspace theme! Awesome work.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's easy to forget that there are those who need assistance with technology and I'm happy we had this assignment as a quick reminder! I love you webquest theme!
