Blog Post 5: Week 5
An ELA technology standard I feel the most prepared to teach in the future is LAFS.5.RL.3.7, or, "analyze how visual and multimedia elements contribute to the meaning, tone, or beauty of text". This ELA standard involves using different technological tools in the classroom to present a lesson on the components of text. I feel that this would be an easy standard for me to teach as I am very well versed with various multimedia tools such as Inspiration 9, Microsoft Office and ebooks on different platforms. On the other hand, a standard that would take time for me to learn would be LAFS.5.SL.2.5, or, "include multimedia components and visual displays in presentations when appropriate to enhance the development of main ideas or themes". This standard would take more time for me to learn and feel prepared to teach as I am not proficient in using tools such as iMovie, Pixlr, or audio recorder clips.
The CPALMS Educator Toolkit is a great source to use as an educator as it has a wealth of resources and information for free use, organized by grade level. I looked at the Grade 5 Toolkit and noticed that it has over 80 student resources available for use. I decided to look at an Original Student Tutorial called Amazing Adaptations Part 2: Marine Animals. This resource seemed to me like a pre-planned lesson in the form of a video. I would definitely use something like this in the classroom as it is structured and organized perfectly for learning and understanding. It begins with lesson objectives and gives definitions of key topics and words before the lesson actually begins. Additionally, it gives students the opportunity to interact with the information through practice multiple choice questions and shows photos and clips of the information they are learning.
I personally really enjoyed the Newsletter Design assignment as I like being creative. The assignment was fun for me since I was able to create something entirely from scratch and make it how I wanted it to look. I loved being able to pick what I wanted to write about as well as how I wanted to format the newsletter itself in terms of colors, photos, fonts, etc. There was really nothing that I disliked about the assignment, and in terms of improvement for next time, I want to think of different types of "articles" to include that are new and creative.

Thank you for commenting on my last blog post! I'm impressed that you are already so knowledgeable about Inspiration 9, Microsoft Office and ebooks. I personally had never used Inspiration 9 prior to taking this course and I still don't know where exactly to locate ebooks outside of Amazon. I really like how you incorporated the flags, picture of yourself, and a meme into your newsletter! I absolutely love it. Keep up the awesome work!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my last post!! I love the layout of your blog!!
