Blog Post 1: Week 1

My name is Gabriella, but I prefer being called Gabi. I spell it with an I instead of a Y to be different. I am a senior Psychology major at Florida State University. Last year I decided to minor in Education so that I can pursue my dreams of becoming a teacher after I graduate. I would love to teach in a private school, preferably 3rd, 4th or 5th grade. Two subjects I would be interested in teaching include Science and English. In my free time, you can find me at Tallahassee Rock Gym getting in some exercise or hanging out with my friends in new and exciting places around Tallahassee. My favorite colors are blue and yellow. I like these colors because they remind me of the beach, and the beach is my happy place.

Technology has become an integral part of my life in the last ten years. I started using technology in a classroom setting in middle school. We were given the opportunity to use small laptops in Science, English and Math classes to encourage collaborative learning. In high school I was fortunate enough to have been given a personal MacBook Air and iPad to supplement my learning in the classroom environment. These pieces of technology were used in every aspect of my educational experience; from tests and quizzes, to projects and hands-on creation. In college, I still use my computer on a daily basis. It serves as an educational and personal device. I also have my iPhone with me 24/7. I use this for social networking, school, connecting with friends and family and entertainment. I have noticed recently that the amount of time that I use technology on a daily basis has increased vastly, and admittedly, I am not proud of this habit.

I hope to learn many things in this class, the main thing being how to utilize technology in the classroom setting. The decade has seen a boom in the increase of technological advancements. These advancements have found their way into every aspect of life, especially the educational setting. As a future educator, I think it is important to understand the rapidly developing technology of our age and be able to implement it into lesson plans for a more hands-on, collaborative learning and technology friendly classroom. I am also eager to learn about advanced Microsoft Office skills as I can utilize these in multiple areas of my life.
